Glimpsing A Face
September 11, 2008
Greetings, Prayer Team!
How I love to be out before the sun, when it’s just light enough to venture about. The morning arrives ahead of the sun, and I catch a slight glimpse, the tiniest glimpse, of what the world must have been like before God created the sun.
I exercise my limbs and memory at the same time, and as I top one hill and the sun spills over the others, I am in awe: “…and His countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength…” (Revelation 1:16). John saw Him; I can only imagine a human face as bright as the rays streaming across the morning earth. Moses saw Him, too, and came down from the mountain glowing so fiercely that no one could look into his face.
By that Light, we read everything. Sometimes gentle with us, at other times sharp as it reveals a weed or a muddy garden tool left out the night before the first snow, it—He—quietly, faithfully opens our eyes to the path He brightens.
It’s true, earthy things fade in that Light; yet a practical, responsible use of them comes clear in its rays. It reminds me why I come to work in the morning, why over a thousand families (and many more whose names we don’t know) have committed and invested treasure. Earthy treasure securing streams of living Light in classrooms and infant churches, on the internet and a shining lake in north Idaho, binds up earthy hearts in heaven’s pursuits.
