Pouring Out Miracles

June 11, 2009

Greetings, Prayer Team!

This weekend, Walla Walla University seniors march down the aisle to receive their diplomas. They’ve worked hard to achieve this milestone, this new beginning. We pray that God will bless them and keep them, that they will fight in God’s army until Jesus comes again.

The weekend after the University graduation brings in the Walla Walla campmeeting. In preparing my heart for the weekend’s blessings, my thoughts turn to the story of a young king in Israel, Josiah by name, who led out in a massive gathering—an ancient campmeeting, in a way—at the temple. It was a great revival, and you can read it for yourself in 2 Kings 22 and 23.

But some things stood out to me, some things that might serve me well in refreshing my own heart.

Josiah was already in the midst of raising money to refurbish the temple. During that time, Hilkiah the priest found the Book of the Law. Not only did he find it, he asked the scribe to read it aloud to him. Then when he heard the words in the Book, he knew it had to be shared.

Now, Hilkiah was a bold evangelist. He knew that Israel wasn’t living up to the things in the Book, and he knew things needed to change. Rather than take the words to the farmers and shepherds and carpenters of the land to start the revival from the ground up, he went straight to the king. When the king heard the words, he tore his clothes and wept in humility and repentance.

Humility and repentance.

As soon as he received word that God had accepted his plea for mercy, he gathered all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem, and all the people of Jerusalem both small and great, and went to the temple. They renewed their covenant with God, and rid their lives of every allegiance to any other god. Amazing things happened at that gathering, because Josiah heard the word of the Lord with humility and repentance.

My heart, I know, needs an increase of those ingredients. God heard Josiah’s cry, and He can still hear mine today. Will you join me today in hearing God’s word the way Josiah heard it, and allowing God to work miracles in our lives? I believe He is ready and waiting to do so. It could happen at campmeeting, or it could happen in your personal time in God’s word. Either way, miracles can happen as we let God pour His word into our hearts.
