Rejuvenation
January 3, 2008
Greetings, Prayer Team!
I rarely make any new year’s resolutions. This time, however, I made several little lists—it just so happened that one of my re-examine-and-reform-my-life moods came on at the same time as the fresh year. My “Things I’d like to do in 2008” list has all kinds of fun things on it, such as learn Hebrew, Physics (I better review Calculus), and quilting. My “Goals in Ministry” list covers my calling and mission with my little church, as well as a few neighbors and friends. Perhaps I should also make a “Character Rough Spots to Work On” list. Hmmm.
The “Current Stressors” list lays the foundation for all the other lists, no matter how many I make. Unless I figure out how to get rid of many or most of them, or at least how to handle them more wisely, there will be no room for growth in any of the others. Most of the items are things to be aware of and think about, but not really to stress over. I’ve pondered the problem for several days.
Can you guess the solution?
“Come unto Me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest,” said Jesus. And His messenger said, “Rest for the soul is comprehensive.” (Bible Training School, September 1, 1903)
With that under my belt, I might just pray over and then burn the “Stressors” list and roast hot dogs and bake potatoes in the coals. And study Hebrew by their light.
May our newest year be filled with the rest Jesus offers us, and therefore the rejuvenation and resolution His peace can bring.
