Savoring the Beauty

November 29, 2007

Season’s greetings, Prayer Team!

I woke in the middle of the night last night, and realized it was no longer raining. No indeed. It was snowing instead, and even sticking to the ground.

Have you ever bounced on your bed in the middle of the night? How about when you were above the age of seven?

It was still snowing when I took my morning walk, still snowing when I came to work, still snowing when we unwrapped the Christmas decorations and set out the ginger bread men to open the holiday season. It was even still snowing when we went to lunch, although it was rather wet by that time.

I hope I never get so old that I dislike the snow or forget to appreciate the visual reminder that though my sins are red like crimson, they shall be white as snow.

Sometimes we humans can be so driven by a long-term goal that we forget to recognize blessings along the way. It’s easy to see tragedies around us—and we have seen some this week—and lose a little bit of courage every day. However, we believe that God is always with us, and that it’s important to savor the goodness in each day. That’s actually part of why we decorated the office together this morning, savoring both the fellowship and the beauty.

In the mood to count blessings, Patsy and I took a moment to reflect on how richly God has provided for us this year. Last year at this time, our members had committed 68% of our $6 million goal. As we near the end of 2007, our members have committed 95% of our $6 million goal. Each one of those commitments represents a generous heart and a willing spirit. What a tremendous testimony! The growth in commitments this year alone represents over $1.5 million that people are willing to part with in order to benefit others.

We are continually grateful to work with whatever God brings through His people.
