General Contractors, Leone and Keeble, inc. began removing the debris last week from the burned Upper Columbia Conference office site on Grove Road in Spokane. This is the first visible step of the rebuilding process.
After seven months of waiting for estimates and studies, there are many decisions yet to be made in the rebuilding of the office that burned December 28, 2008.
"The delay has to do with insurance negotiations," says Jay Wintermeyer, communication director for Upper Columbia Conference." There was almost a three million dollar difference between what the insurance company estimated it would cost to rebuild and what the UCC contractor estimated.
With the large difference in the two bids, the insurance company invited a third party to analyze the two bids to find out which was more accurate. The building committee and the insurance company are scheduled to meet Thursday, July 30, 2009 to discuss the analysis and come to a final settlement figure.
