[March 13, 2007] The Mattawa Lions and Yakima Wildcats Pathfinder Clubs both got first place in the northwest regional Bible Bowl in Portland, Oregon on March 10, 2007. Both teams are eligible to advance to the national finals at Andrews University in Michigan.

The Mattawa Lions are also the first Hispanic church Bible Bowl team from the Upper Columbia Conference to advance to the national finals.

The Mattawa club, still in its first year of being organized as a club, is very grateful for its team coach, Cindy Johnson.

“The Mattawa Spanish Church is really grateful for Cindy Johnson,” said Calixto Ruiz, pastor of the Mattawa Spanish Church, “because she has been the Lion’s coach and mentor from the very beginning. We could not thank her enough for her help and dedication to the club.”

Last year the Yakima Wildcats got first place during the national Bible Bowl at Andrews University and have been at the nationals in previous years, as well.

This year, with two clubs advancing to the finals, the Upper Columbia Conference will be well-represented.

The Bible Bowl is a nationwide Bible knowledge game held by pathfinder clubs each year throughout North America. All teams can get first place if they get enough points in the game. The object of the game is to achieve Bible knowledge, rather than compete to defeat other teams. For more information about Bible Bowl, visit www.pathfindersonline.org.
