COLLEGE PLACE, Wash., August 10, 2012 - SonBridge Community Center received a $170,000 matching grant from the Donald and Virginia Sherwood Trust to complete construction of the center's new medical and dental clinics and upgrade its parking. Supporters of SonBridge donated in excess of $225,000 in order to meet the requirements of this matching grant.
The medical clinic, operated by SOS Health Services, will open in its new space later this year. This space is provided rent free by SonBridge. The dental clinic will open after the dental equipment and supplies are procured and installed. Upgraded and expanded parking will also be available.
SonBridge is now debt free through the generous support of the community and businesses, and it is more than halfway through a $2.8 million campaign to complete construction within the current building. A conference and education center will follow the completion of the clinics and the parking expansion.
“It is a joy to experience the generous financial response of both individuals and businesses.” says June Christensen, Executive Director of SonBridge. "We are thankful to our community and to the Donald and Virginia Sherwood Trust for demonstrating their level of commitment to helping care for the unmet needs of others. We have been inspired!"
SonBridge is a non-profit community center founded in 2004 to provide a focused location to meet the needs of the underserved in the Walla Walla Valley. SonBridge and its partners provide medical, dental, education and social connection services. It is supported by its friends, a thrift store, and more than eight churches.
