July 9 – 13, 2007

5:30 – 8:30 pm

Avalanche Ranch (by Group)

Leader: Michelle Church

Report from Cheri Corder

With another church down the street doing the same program during the same week, competition was stiff. Some kids solved that problem by attending both—one in the morning and this one in the evening! Consequently, among the 40 kids attending, they still had at least a dozen coming from the community.

Sandpoint gets major kudos for the fabulous, healthy food they served in their Chuck Wagon! They ended up serving a full supper, with their menus including such line-ups as: Beans ‘n biscuits with cherries; flapjacks, applesauce and strawberries; corn on the cob, green salad and jojos with cheese… Makes me hungry just thinking about it!

As was the case in some other churches, there were those who were uncertain about some of the music that came with the Avalanche program. Using common sense, the leaders adapted by using the songs selectively and by starting VBS in the fellowship hall, when they were using the livelier songs, and concluding in the sanctuary, when they were using the more reverent songs of consecration and worship.

The final program from VBS was on Sabbath morning, as part of the worship service.
