Youth Mission Adventures 2010-Guatemala

Dates: March 16-29, 2010

Two Girls from Guatemala

March 17 Update: The group flew out yesterday and have arrived in Guatemala all safe and sound. They are getting settled in San Luis where they are staying. Tomorrow they will go the church site and begin building the new church.

March 22 Update: The building of the church in Cachacan is ahead of schedule. They have completed enough rows of brick that the walls are up to the base of the windows. They will get the church done with time to spare. The weather has been wet and windy for the last few days. Today has proven so far to be a wonderful day of sunshine. The meetings started last night (Sunday) and approximately 30 adults attended the adult meetings and 35 children attended the VBS. They are meeting in a tent approximately 200 feet from where they are building the church. Another meeting is being run at the same time in a church that our first mission trip to Guatemala built. The second meeting also had approximately 30 adults and 35 chilldren.

Some concerned parents called about the earthquake in Guatemala. That earthquake was in western Guatemala near the Mexico border and the group is much farther east. Tye Davis was asked about the earthquake and he stated, "What earthquake?" They were not even aware that there was one in Guatemala. Please keep the group in your prayers for their continued labor of love doing God's work.

TicalMarch 25 Update: The group got to visit Tikal and explore some of the pyramids yesterday. On Wednesday they also went shopping in Flores and had lots of fun. The group went swimming today at a swimming hole near the orphanage. The roof is going on the church today. Tomorrow the group will get the church cleaned up and decorated for Sabbath services. The evening meetings are very sucessful with approximately 80-100 adults and as many children attending the VBS. The other meeting and VBS has approximately 50 people attending. They have been making new friends and feel very blessed by the Guatemalan people. Sabbath will be their last day with the Cachacan people and it will be both joyous to celebrate the new church and sad when they leave their new friends. On Sunday they will be traveling back to Guatemala City and fly home on Monday.

Project: We will be building a church, putting on a series of evangelistic meetings, doing kids meetings (Vacation Bible School) and possibly providing medical care.
