What's your name? Is it Tom, Dick, or Harry? How about Mary, Sue, or Jane? Some names are terms of endearment, such as Honey, Sugar, or Princess. Some names are very hurtful, such as dummy, stupid, or ugly. Names in Biblical times had significant meaning and often centered around the circumstances of birth, or were given as a descriptor of who that person was to become. A friend, upon learning that she was adopted, found a copy of her birth certificate that listed her as "Number 2508 of 1966. Worse yet was the box with her name in it. It said: UNKNOWN. How sad!
Here's the cool thing about God: He KNOWS your name, no matter what it is, no matter what it means. He CREATED you, no matter the circumstances of your birth. He "knit you together in your mother's womb" (Psalm 139:13). He saw YOU then, and He still does! No matter your name. YOU are a child of God! YOU were wanted! YOU are loved! Nothing can or ever will change that! Let that soak in to your wounded heart. Feel that!
The blessing doesn't stop there, because when He comes again to redeem His children, He will give us a new name... a name that is known to each of us privately. It will be written on a white stone. It is God's name for you and for me, a nickname, a term of endearment chosen just for each of us personally! (Rev. 2:16).
Today, KNOW that you are LOVED and CHOSEN by God. You have been reborn in Him and have been given a new name. Don't miss out on the Big Reveal of that name when He comes to take His children home.
