A mom reached the drive-up window to order lunch for herself and her 9-year-old daughter and realized she didn’t have money to pay for their food. Her daughter had a $10 bill she just received for her birthday. The mom asked to borrow the money. The daughter refused, stating she wanted to show the bill off to her friends. The mom urged her daughter to let her borrow the money, stating she would go by the bank later that day and replace the $10 bill. Her daughter kept insisting that it was important to show her friends the $10 bill and didn’t trust that her mom would replace it quickly. Finally, the mom’s pressure won out and the daughter gave up her money. The mom knew something the daughter didn’t: waiting at home was a birthday card from her grandmother that contained a $50 bill!
Are we like the daughter? We settle for what we think is good when God clearly wants to give us His best? God’s blessings are so magnificent, yet do we miss out on them because we are holding on to something that we think will make us look impressive or important to our friends and don’t fully trust God?
Malachi 3:10 says: “Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.”
Are you holding onto something good, but missing out on God’s best, simply because you don’t want to let go? I challenge you today to TRUST Him. His ways are not our ways, and His ways are far better than we could think or imagine. Besides, He knows what’s waiting in the envelope at home.
