On a scale from 1-10, with 10 being the highest, how content are you? How calm or anxious do you feel on any given day? Personally, I'd have to rate myself pretty low this week. It's been a struggle.
I take comfort, though, in the words of Paul, in his letter to the Philippians. He says: "I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have LEARNED to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have LEARNED the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through Him who gives me strength." (Ch. 4, vs. 11-13).
Did you catch the emphasis? Paul LEARNED! That means I can learn, you can learn, how to be content. WHAT? I don't have to walk around stressed and worried? How awesome is that!!! But how do I learn to be content?
Paul gives us that as well. Read vs. 13 closely: "I can do EVERYTHING through Him who gives me strength." That means by abiding in Him, by reading my Bible, by praying, by journaling -- whatever it is that causes us to KNOW God -- I can face just about anything with contentment. Whether we have plenty or we are in need, God can give us peace in the midst of the storm.
A quote from a book I am reading says this: "Contentment is separate from our circumstances. Contentment is a state of the heart, not a state of affairs." God bless you today as you seek Him and the wonderful life of peace and contentment He offers.
