Why do we screen our volunteers who work with children?
A child is abused in North America every 10 seconds.
There are over 3 million allegations made to law enforcement involving over 5 million children annually.
Churches typically do not understand the magnitude of abuse problems.
One in five churches in North America have reported allegations of child abuse in their ministries.

We, here in the Human Resources Department of Upper Columbia Conference, are committed to assisting our churches and schools in providing safe environments for our children. Our Volunteer Screening Service provides assistance to each local church in obtaining criminal history checks, personal referencing and personal training to all those who work with children on a regular basis. In addition, we supply training for the local Volunteer Screening Coordinators who will work with the volunteers in their local churches and schools. Bottom line, "Our ministry is to protect your ministry" (Adventist Risk Management, Inc.) thus protecting our children.

Verified Volunteers is the name of our new digital system for doing Volunteer Screening. Why this change?
Verified Volunteers includes a thorough behavioral training program for volunteers who work with children.
Personal referencing will still be done.
Applicants can access the system from their personal computer at home at: https://www.ncsrisk.org/adventist.
Criminal history checks will be done very quickly within the system.
Entire approval process will be done quickly and efficiently.
Adventist entities of the North American Division will have access to this same system for volunteer screening.
For this new system, simply go to the link found on the right side of this page, and go through the training and registration process on your own computer. Please note: the old "paper forms" system is no longer accepted as part of the volunteer screening process.
