God Hears and Heals

Joyce saw the seriousness of the infection and advised she get to the hospital right away to check it out.

Fireworks were going off in the Filipino town. It was January 1 and in all the excitement a dog got loose from one home. Dorothy Nelson, who was a guest in the home, was the dog’s owner. Even at 94-years of age, she hurried out the door, and in so doing she fell against some furniture. She got a deep cut and with the pain she could not get up. The noisy fireworks kept people from hearing her calls for help.

Finally, the gardener found her. He put on gloves and helped wash the wound which was bleeding profusely. The wound was painful and became infected. She was put on antibiotics and after two rounds, the redness and pain had not gone away. So she sent a photo of her wound to her daughter, Janet, who shared it with her friend, Joyce, a nurse. Joyce saw the seriousness of the infection and advised her to get to the hospital right away to check it out. The hospital visit would mean a flight to Manila.

Janet and Joyce prayed for Dorothy that night and Joyce even thanked God for healing Dorothy before she knew she would be healed.

Dorothy was planning to take a flight the next day to Manila, but instead she woke up with no pain. When she felt her leg, the big scab was gone. There was new smooth skin. What had been a deep wound was simply gone. She was so thankful. Her fears of losing her leg were now gone!

She shared her thankfulness to God for healing her by sharing a video with her kids, telling them about the divine intervention, and how thankful she was that she didn’t need to fly to Manila. Her family praises God for working this healing miracle.

Dorothy is still active in the Philippines as a missionary. She loves the Philippines and says, “here people respect and love the elderly.” No stranger to miracles, Dorothy wrote, Mayday Over the Arctic, a miraculous story of survival and rescue. It is also interesting to note that this missionary, pilot, nurse, and author still takes speaking appointments and was in the National Geographic issue that featured Blue Zones.
