KLRF Christmas Float Wins Second Prize

KLRF Radio took a new approach to share hope with the Walla Walla Valley last Christmas.

In the Walla Walla Valley and beyond, listeners can hear sacred sounds of hope through KLRF 88.5 FM. The General Manager and board carefully choose the music and programming to reflect a prayerful, meditative spirit 24 hours a day. After 25 years, KLRF has gained a large audience of appreciative listeners. KLRF continues, through the work of devoted volunteers, spreading the word of the full-powered radio station through means such as the county fair, newsletters, and saturation mailers.

In 2024, the board decided to make a float for the two Christmas light parades in College Place and Walla Walla, WA. A small committee planned and organized to acquire a trailer, lights, and costumes to create a manger scene complete with a 13-foot star and Pathfinders dressed to act the parts. Shepherds leading two live donkeys and passing out KLRF share cards walked along the side of the float.

After the parade, the news came that the KLRF float won second prize. This gave more publicity of the radio station through the local newspaper. Janice McKenzie, the float committee chairman, realized that KLRF represented one of the only spiritual floats in the whole parade of lights. With God’s blessing KLRF strives to spread the gospel by bringing His light to a world in darkness.
