The Upper Columbia Academy Board and Upper Columbia Conference welcome Jeff “PJ” Deming to serve as the next principal for Upper Columbia Academy (UCA). Eric Johnson, the previous principal of UCA, gave notice to the UCA Board at the beginning of April that he will be transitioning to a new position at the end of the 2020-2021 school year. Deming will assume his duties as of July 1, 2021.

“We are very excited to welcome PJ and his family to the Upper Columbia Conference,” says Brian Harris, VP of education at Upper Columbia Conference. “We look forward to seeing how God will continue to bless UCA through his leadership.”

Deming graduated from Union College, Lincoln, Nebraska, with a degree in theology. He also holds a master’s degree in leadership and administration from La Sierra University, Riverside, California. He has previously served as a campus chaplain, development director, youth director, and lead pastor. He brings a wealth of administrative experience at the local church, school and conference levels.

Deming and his wife, Amy, have served for the past eleven years at Monterey Bay Academy, a 9-12 boarding academy located in the Central California Conference. The Demings have three adult children and one grandchild.

Johnson has served as principal of UCA for the past four years.

“Eric has led UCA with distinction and we wish him the best as he and his family make their move to the east coast,” says Harris.

When sharing his decision with his staff, Johnson said “This decision was not easy as I love both the students and staff here at UCA. They are simply the best! It has been a distinct honor to be able to lead Upper Columbia Academy these past 4 years. I cannot tell you how much I have appreciated your prayers and support, especially this year. I am looking forward to a great finish to our school year.”
