Prayer Changes Things

January 8, 2021

Miracles Still Happen. If you don't believe me? Read this story.

The doctors told my sister that Elijah would be born with six different birth defects. At the time my sister was struggling with drug addiction. The father was never going to be part of the picture. I found out she was pregnant through a post on Facebook announcing my sister was having a boy and that she was naming him "Elijah Lamar Stephen Farr" after me.

I spent the rest of her pregnancy praying for the child and visited my sister in Seattle just before she had Elijah. I took her to the Space Needle on New Year’s Eve just before he was born. We walked there because I wanted her to have the baby while I was on Christmas break so she would have someone there to support her. But Elijah was born January 9, 2015.

He only had one of the six birth defects the doctor's said he would. He was born with his stomach on the outside. A surgery fixed that and in just a few weeks he turns six years old.

Today we got to watch our first Seahawks game together where the Seahawks beat the Rams and won the NFC West Division Title. Elijah Lamar Stephen Farr is a healthy, intelligent, strong and amazing little boy.

My sister has turned her life around. I got to baptize her and her daughter Aubri before going to Andrews University to work on my Master’s Degree. It was an answer to 13 years of prayer.

So why am I sharing this story? Because prayer works. I love being a big brother and an Uncle. I love getting to be a part of Elijah's life. He is a miracle. My sister is a miracle. God is good. Amen!
