Prayer Increases Faith

Lord increase thou my faith and help thou, my unbelief.

Luke 17:5

As a child growing up I learned the Lord’s prayer and each night I prayed The Christian Child’s Prayer, ”Now I lay be down to sleep…. ." Long prayers to God speaking to him as a friend to another friend was not something I was taught.

As a mother, I looked for ways to strengthen the faith of my boys. I leaned very early to ask the LORD to increase the faith of my sons since I believed strongly as boys one day to be men, they would need a strong faith in the LORD. So, during times of trials, I begged that he strengthen their faith. I encourage all mothers to do the same.

We moved to Spokane after living in Tennessee for six years. At this time, I had three boys ages 5, 3, and 1. Frequently we traveled from Icebox Canyon to Spokane to shop, visit friends, attend church, and travel to school. Several times we met strangers who we believe to be angels.

We knew no one in Spokane. After shopping we returned to the car only to find out that the keys were plainly seen in the ignition. In our desperation I explained to the boys that we needed to pray and ask GOD to send us help. I'd like to believe that we did this immediately but no, we prayed after we had tried every door and the trunk of the car. Then we gathered together on our knees and asked the LORD to help. After the last prayer, I begged in my heart LORD please increase the faith of my sons.

The next instant, a man in a black suit with a white shirt spoke to us. We were surprised since he was standing next to our car and when we bowed our heads to pray, there wasn’t a soul in the parking lot.

When he spoke, he asked if he could help? I remember explaining in my amazement to see him what had transpired.

He asked, "do you mind if I try?"

I said, "yes."

He shook the back door on the passenger’s side. The door flew open.

I thanked him profusely the boys were happily saying thank you. As we climbed into the car, Joshua or Steve asked me, “Where did the man go, Mommy?”

I was really surprised because the man was nowhere to be seen. Then we babbled over how God had sent us an angel and we were happy.
