Three Weeks, a Thousand Prayers, and God's Perfect Timing
An unexpected journey of faith, answered prayer, and a home we never imagined
by Stefanie Brimicomb
Years ago, my husband and I purchased a large home with a specific purpose: to provide a place where we could care for ailing family members. Over the years, our home became a place of refuge, love, and caregiving.
About three years ago, we began to feel God's leading toward another chapter of our lives. We felt impressed to purchase a home in Weippe, a tiny, remote community in Idaho where poverty and substance abuse have taken a toll on many families.
There is a small, established church in Weippe with a remarkable congregation. Most of its members are in their 80s and 90s, yet they faithfully serve their community! Every Wednesday, their active community service ministry opens its doors, operating what has become the town's thrift store and food bank. We couldn't help but wonder what God might have in mind for us there. Perhaps it was time for a younger generation to help carry the work forward.
We purchased a home in Weippe and began the long process of renovating it, trusting that when the time was right, God would make the way for us to move.
Then, at the beginning of 2026, everything began to change.
After years of caring for loved ones, we suddenly found ourselves living in a very large, very empty house. Those dear family members had passed away, and the home that had once been so full of life and purpose had grown quiet.
In July, we received several unsolicited inquiries from people wondering whether we would consider selling our home. In the past, unexpected interest like this has often been one of the ways God has signaled that it was time for us to prepare for a move.
We showed the house to several interested parties, but none were able to secure financing.
I wasn't particularly discouraged. Given the housing market, I assumed selling might take quite some time. We simply committed the matter to prayer, asking God for wisdom, discernment, and His perfect timing.
In all our previous home sales, we had never used a real estate agent. This time, however, after about six weeks of prayer—and with the unexpected offer of a rental home where we could stay during the transition—a local Realtor approached us and asked whether we might be interested in selling.
We told her we would consider it.
On September 21, she officially listed our home and scheduled an open house for September 25.
She also prepared us for the realities of the current market. We might need to offer to pay the buyer's closing costs, provide an interest-rate buydown, or offer other financial incentives to make the home affordable.
We understood. We were prepared to be patient.
But God apparently had a different timetable!
That very evening, our Realtor called. Someone was interested. Could they come by for a walk-through? "Of course!" The following day, three more prospective buyers came through.
Then, on September 23—just TWO DAYS after the house was listed—our Realtor called with astonishing news. We had three offers! Two were for the full asking price, with no requested concessions or incentives. And one offer was actually ABOVE our asking price!
Once again, we took the matter to the Lord in prayer. On September 24, we accepted the higher offer. Suddenly, the house we thought might take months to sell was under contract, with the prospect of closing in just 30 days!
To say we were overwhelmed would be an understatement. We had an enormous house full of belongings, years of accumulated memories, and very little time to pack and move. But at least we had that rental house waiting for us.
Or so we thought.
When we called our friend to make arrangements, she regretfully informed us that her husband had already rented the house to someone else.
Now what?
Our Weippe home was still under construction and nowhere near ready for us to occupy. We needed somewhere to live in the meantime. And we knew how difficult that could be. We had spent more than a year trying to help our daughter find a rental, so we were painfully aware of the housing shortage in our area.
Again, we prayed.
Then I did something rather spontaneous. I joined a community group on social media that I had never participated in before and posted that we were looking for a temporary rental.
Within an hour, my phone rang.
On the other end was a woman who explained that she and her husband had a property they had been trying to decide whether to rent.
She began asking the usual screening questions.
Do you smoke? No.
Do you drink? No.
Do you have big parties? No, we're pretty quiet.
And somewhere in the conversation, I mentioned that I am a Seventh-day Adventist.
Before long, she and her husband invited us to come meet them and see the property. They wanted to know whether it might be a good fit for all of us. We went right away and what we found was beyond anything I could have imagined.
For the past three years, this couple had been lovingly restoring an old cabin which sits on Bluebird Lane. Across the street stands their own beautifully restored farmhouse. The cabin sits on the edge of a ravine, with a creek winding along below and magnificent willow trees stretching overhead. From the upper, ground-level floor, doors open onto a balcony overlooking this peaceful setting. It feels like a little sanctuary tucked away in the woods. I don't know about bluebirds of happiness, but we do have a family of great horned owls living in those willow trees!
And the cabin itself? Beautifully restored, welcoming, peaceful, and full of character. I cannot adequately describe how perfectly this little place meets the desires of my heart.
Desires I didn't even know were there.
After touring the cabin and spending time getting acquainted, the four of us stood together in a circle and prayed. We asked God for wisdom and discernment, that He would make it clear whether this arrangement was right for both couples. Imagine that—meeting prospective landlords for the first time and ending the visit in prayer together!
And so, while we continue working toward completing our home in the Weippe mission field, God has provided a lovely, peaceful place for us to call home during the transition.
Looking back, I am amazed at how quickly everything unfolded. For months, we had prayed and waited, unsure of how or when the next chapter would begin. Then, in the space of just three weeks, our house was listed, multiple offers arrived, a buyer was found, our anticipated rental disappeared, and an even more wonderful home opened its doors to us.
I am reminded that God's answers don't always arrive in the order we expect. Sometimes a door closes just when we think everything is falling into place. Sometimes the solution we had counted on disappears. But perhaps that closed door is simply making way for something we could never have imagined.
We prayed for a buyer. God provided one.
We prayed for a place to stay. God provided a sanctuary.
We prayed for wisdom about the future. God introduced us to fellow believers who joined us in prayer.
And through it all, He has continued to prepare the way toward the little community where we believe He is calling us to serve. We don't know everything that awaits us in Weippe. We don't know exactly how God will use us there. But we have seen enough of His faithfulness to trust Him with the details.
Who but our faithful God could have known how much our lives would change in just three weeks?
And who but He could have known the desires of our hearts before we even discovered them ourselves?
“Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.” — Psalm 37:4 (KJV)
