Vertical Questions and Answers

September 11, 2023

Ten Days of 24-hour prayer begins September 15, 2023. Is God calling you to fast and pray?

In Upper Columbia Conference there are many churches participating in Vertical 24-10 Prayer Experience. This event is right around the corner and is happening September 15-24. Many are signing up to lead out in the 24-hour prayer zooms. Many are signing up to receive the Daily Devotional which is from the book, 50 Days of Prayer to Prepare for the Latter Rain and Christ's Return, by Dennis Smith.

Even though flyers and posters have been sent to each church and information sent to key people in each congregation, here are some answers to questions that have come to the UCC Prayer Ministries.

What is Vertical 24-10 Prayer Experience?

Praying together 24 hours a day for 10 days for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit was born out of a desire to follow the example of the disciples when Jesus asked them to pray for ten days for the Holy Spirit to come. Prayer leaders were inspired that God is asking us to do this. For more in-depth description of this, go to: https://www.uccsda.org/vertical

How to I receive the daily devotional?

For all who sign up to “Join the 24-10 Vertical Experience at https://www.uccsda.org/vertical, a daily devotional about the Holy Spirit will be sent early each day. Early at 12:15 a.m., since this is a 24-hour day. In the devotional, you will be invited to choose a prayer partner to pray with each day.

How can I pray each day with others?

You can go into Zoom Room For each day of Vertical 24-10. A Zoom has been set up for each day from September 15 to 24. Prayer Coordinators and leaders throughout the conference have signed up to lead out in these prayer rooms so members can join anytime of day or night with them in prayer. These zoom room links are found listed at https://www.uccsda.org/verticalresources at the top of the left column. There is a PDF File of all 10 Days which has the phone number and password to call in. Each day is also listed and should work for people with a computer to join in quickly.

Do You Need More Leaders in the Prayer Zoom Rooms?

Yes, we can still use Zoom Prayer Room Leaders and you are invited to be a part in helping with the zoom rooms. Here is the training time If you cannot make this time and need training, email to: prayer@uccsda.org

Are you asking volunteers to pray for 24 hours?

No. Volunteers sign up to pray during a segment of time within the 24-hour window. We are hoping that volunteers throughout the conference will keep the prayer chain intact! And so that someone is aways praying.

Can I just pray alone for this?

Yes! We hope all who can, will spend extra time in prayer for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. If you wish to let us know what time of day you are praying, here is a short form for those who would like to make a prayer time commitment: https://forms.gle/xsXpMY4ZevWN4jrg9

Is there a promotional Video about Vertical?

Yes, David Jamieson and the UCC Communication Department created a short video that you can show at your church. It is in the list of “Current Vertical Promotional Resources” at https://www.uccsda.org/verticalresources

I Did not get any flyers or posters, How can I get Flyers and Posters?

Flyers and posters in both English and Spanish are available at the same place as the question above. They were handed out to pastors at the summer retreat and mailed to each church without a pastor.

Can others outside of our conference participate?

Yes, you can share this with anyone. Perhaps your prayer partners is in another state. That is okay.

Is there something available to share with our church each Sabbath?

There are “Sabbath Readings about Vertical” that you can print out and share from the front each Sabbath. This is also listed at https://www.uccsda.lorg/verticalresources just above the video by David Jamieson.

Thank you all for what you are doing and what you will be doing for Vertical 24-10 Prayer Experience. We know that when God asks us to pray, that He will bless abundantly our time spent in praying for an outpouring of His Holy Spirit.

And when they had prayed, the place in which

they were gathered together was shaken,

and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit

and continued to speak the word of God

with boldness.

Acts 4:31
